Logging Exercise Minutes

CalorieSmart can calculate the number of calories you have burned while exercising to create a daily exercise log. Let us say you have been walking for about 20 minutes and you know that you usually take 13 minutes to cover a mile.
From the main menu, select Exercise and Lookup, Log Exercise. You can find select walking from Show All Exercises or you can search for it by typing a specific search term. Typing in the first three letters of a search item is often effective enough; in this case, enter WAL in the search field. There are several different options available for walking exercise; select Walk: 13 min/mile to match your average pace, then enter in 20 in the Time Spent field. After entering in your time, the number of burned calories will automatically be calculated. When you are done, select Log to save the information.
When logging your exercise minutes, it is important to remember that the calorie calculations will be based upon your body weight. Your body weight can be set in the Weight Goals option from the Setup menu. If no specific weight is in, 100 lbs will be used as the default weight.
To review your latest log entries, press either L or 0 from the main menu. This will display your last ten log entries.
Quick Entries

If you know how many calories you have burned in your workout, you can easily enter it directly into your CalorieSmart. From the main menu, select Quick Entries and Log Exercise Calories. Enter in the time you have spent exercising and the number of calories burned, then select Log to save the information.
If you want to review your recent log entries, you can do so quickly by pressing either the L or 0 button from the main menu.
Adding New Exercises

If you have got your own workout routine or play a sport that is not listed in the CalorieSmart database, you can create a new database entry for your activity. From the main menu, select Exercise and Create Custom Exercise. Type in a name for your activity, then input the number of calories burned per minute. When you are done, select Save. Your new activity will now be listed in the Show All Exercises list and can be found by doing a search.
Daily Exercise Review

Checking your daily exercise totals is a snap. For a quick review, go to the main menu and press either the E or . (period) button to review your daily totals. Use the < or > icons to scroll through the days in your log. Selecting Details brings up a list of daily exercise records. You can select each item on the daily list to inspect and update further details, including editing and deleting.
You can also review your last 10 log entries by pressing either the L or 0 button from the main menu.

Logging Individual Food Items

Let us say you want to calculate the nutritional value of what you are having for breakfast. For this example, we will examine a breakfast containing one cup of Kelloggs All Bran Bran Buds in a ½ cup of 2% milk.
To begin, select Food, then Lookup, Log Food. This brings up the Food Search menu. Scroll down to By Restaurant/Brand. Typing in the first three letters of a search item is often effective enough; type in KEL to search for Kelloggs. This brings up a list of different Kelloggs options. Select Kelloggs All Bran, then select All Bran Bran Buds from the family of products.
After selecting the product, its time to put in specifics for calculation. Enter in 1 for the value and select cup for the measurement unit, and select Log.
Scroll up to TimeSlot and use the arrow keys to select Breakfast, then select Log to save.
Now its time to input the milk information. Hit Main to return to the main menu, then select Food and Lookup, Log Food. Using the By Generic Name/Custom search, type in MIL to bring up the list of milk products. Scroll down to Milk, reduced fat, 2% milkfat and select it to bring up the product specifics.
The default value is in fluid ounces. Input 0.5, then use the arrow key to select the unit type and select cup. Select Log and record it as part of your breakfast.
Now we can calculate what you have had. To review the calories of your meal, press Main, then press the Space key. This displays the daily totals, including a comparison with your overall goals. You can also check out your last 10 log entries by pressing L or 0 from the main menu.
Creating Custom Meals with Multiple Food Items

With the CalorieSmart, you can save your favorite meals for easy future tracking. In addition, you can change the serving size whenever you log a meal to ensure complete customization.
Let us say that you regularly eat one cup of Kelloggs All Bran Bran Buds with a ½ cup of 2% milk. From the main menu, select Food/Manage Custom Meal and Add New Meal. Scroll up and select Add Foods to Meal to begin putting together components of your custom meal.
When you select Add Foods To Meal, the CalorieSmart will display the various Food Search options. Scroll down to By Restaurant/Brand and type in KEL to bring up the different Kelloggs options. Select the Kelloggs All Bran family and the specific All Bran Bran Buds product. Update the serving size to 1 cup, then select Add Food to Meal to add the cereal to the meal.
To complete your custom meal, select Add Food to Meal again. Typing in the first three letters of a search item is often effective enough; type MIL under By Generic Name/Custom and select Milk, reduced fat, 2% milkfat from the search results. Change the serving size by specifying 0.5 for the numeric value and cup as the units. Scroll down to Add Food to Meal to complete the process.
Now that your meal components are ready, you can save the meal. Type in breakfast1 under Name, then press Save. Your favorite breakfast can now be recalled any time.
Quick Food Item Entry

During a hard day on the go, your stomach will inevitably tell you that it needs a snack. Dont worry, the CalorieSmart can quickly log this information too. If you have a rough idea of how many calories you ate, you can directly record it and add it to your daily calorie count.
Lets assume that you have just had 100 calories for a snack. First, scroll down and select Quick Entries. Select Log Food Calories to bring up the data entry screen.
Note that the date and time of your entry are automatically recorded. Select Snack in the TimeSlot category, then enter in 100 for the Calories category. If you know your food's information, you can also type in data for fat, sodium, carbs, fiber, and protein.
When you have entered all the data, scroll down and select Log. The information will be saved to your daily log.
Searching in Favorites

The CalorieSmart can keep a record of your favorite food and drinks for easy access. Let us say that you love to snack on raw apple slices with the skin cut off. Go to Food and Lookup, Log Food to bring up search options. Typing in the first three letters of a search item is often effective enough; type in APP in By Generic Name/Custom to search for apples. Scroll down to Apples, raw, without skin, slices and select it. Select Log & Fav to make it a favorite.
To get back to skinless apple slice information, select Quick Entries from the main menu, then scroll to Log Favorite. You will see that Apples, raw, without skin, slices is now part of your favorites and can be easily accessed at any time.
Searching in Restaurants/Brands

When you are on the go, stopping in a popular restaurant for a quick bite is always an option. With the CalorieSmart, you can look up the nutritional value of their menu while you are there. Let us say you have gone to McDonald's™ on your lunch break and want to know how healthy their menu is. Go to Food and Lookup, Log Food from the main menu. Select By Restaurant/Brand and type in MCD. Remember, typing in the first three letters of a search item is often effective enough. Select McDonalds from the search results.
You have the option to search for a specific item or to view every item on the McDonalds's™ menu. For example, if you had a Filet Of Fish, you can type FIL in the search field or select Show All Items and scroll down until you see it. Once you have selected your food item, you can adjust the amount of servings you have had to calculate the meal's nutritional value.
Searching For Generic Foods

Many foods out there aren't distinguished by brand names after all, a carrot is a carrot, right? For generic food items, you can now search for and log their nutritional value. Let us say that you have had four medium-sized raw baby carrots at work. From the main menu, select Food and Lookup, Log Food. In the By Generic Name/Custom field, enter in CARR. The search results show all types of carrots; select Carrots, baby, raw to bring up the food's information. Now you can change the quantity based on units of medium (for medium-sized carrots), grams, or ounces. Type in 4 and select medium, then select Log to save the information.
Reviewing Daily Totals

When you want to check out your totals of the day so far, all it takes is one button push. From the main menu, press either the space button or F key to bring up the daily total screen. Use the < or > icons to scroll through the days in your log. Selecting Details brings up a list of daily items. You can select each item on the daily list to inspect and update further details, including editing and deleting.
You can also check your recent log entries with the push of a button. From the main menu, press either L or 0; this will display your last 10 log entries.
Adding New Food Items

If there are items in your regular diet that aren't in CalorieSmart's database, don't worry! CalorieSmart gives you enough flexibility to add customized items on your own. You can even add in your own recipes this way based on the nutritional content of the individual items.
To add in a new customized item or recipe, go to Food and Manage New Foods from the main menu. Select Add New Food Item. Give the item or recipe an appropriate name and fill out its nutritional information. When you are done, select Save. To look up your custom item or recipe, go to Food and Lookup, Log Food. Using the By Generic Name/Custom search, type in the first few letters of your customized item.

Accessing Daily Calorie Totals: Shortcut

Your daily calorie totals can be accessed with the press of just one button. If you want to quickly review your calorie count, when you are at the Main Menu, press the Space button or the F key. This will bring up the daily calorie count and food total for your entire day. You can access information from other days by using the < or > icons. Selecting Details brings up a list of food items in the log. Selecting the individual food items allows you to edit, update, or delete information for that entry.
You can also access a recent list of log entries by pressing L or 0 (zero). This displays your last 10 log entries. Please note that these shortcut keys work only from the Main Menu.

To access your daily calorie totals, select Reports from the main menu, then select Food Report. This brings up the option to search by a specific date or a range of dates. Under the Select field, you can pick between the last week, the last two weeks, or the last month. Choosing Other in the Select field allows you to input a specific range of dates. When you have input your preferred search method, select OK to bring up a list of log entries.
Selecting the log entry in your search results brings the daily total for that day. Using the < or > icons allows you to scroll the various days on your list. Selecting Details brings up a list of food items in the log. Selecting the individual food items allows you to edit, update, or delete information for that entry.

Food Reports by Time Slot

If you are only interested in your calorie count from a specific type of meal, you can easily filter your search. To access your daily calorie totals, select Reports from the main menu, then select Food Report. Select the range of dates that you wish to search from, then scroll down to the TimeSlot field. From here, you can select breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, or other types of meals you have logged. When you are done, select OK to bring up a list of log entries.

Accessing Weight Reports

You can track your progress towards your weight goals by selecting Reports from the main menu, then Weight Report. From here, use the Select field to choose the range of records to examine. You can use the arrow buttons to select between one week, the last two weeks, or the last month. Selecting Other allows you to input a specified range of dates. When you're ready, select OK to generate search results.
The search results show individual log entries for your weight tracking. Select a specific entry to bring up the entry's details. This screen allows you to edit or delete the entry.
You can also access a recent list of log entries by pressing L or 0 (zero) from the Main Menu. This displays your last 10 log entries.
